Circuit training certainly has many good qualities as a functional form of exercise. My first concern in making sure a person is functionally fit is structural alignment. Most people coming to me for treatment of their pain are out of alignment. If you are training with a misalignment you will develop pain eventually. If your alignment is good and the circuit training you choose is well rounded, you could consider it functional, unless perhaps if you were a Crossfit follower. Circuit training typically focuses on endurance over strength, and the Crossfit people are firm believers in strength training. That said, most Crossfit workouts are in the circuit style. Another thing to pay attention to is core strength. If your workout is not strengthening your core, you will end up less than functional. I think I forgot to go into that in my post.</description>

Is a good circuit an example of functional fitness?  I&#039;ve only been in a gym about a dozen times in my life so I&#039;m pretty ignorant.</description>
